Abstract In this study, the results of the analytical parametric study of the plastic hinge length of deteriorated reinforced concrete (RC) beams are presented. Empirical expressions of plastic hinge length for RC beams do not consider the effect of corrosion. The plastic hinge length is very important for flexural members because it governs the load carrying and deformation capacities. The behavior of plastic hinges is very complex due to the material nonlinearity, material interactions, and strain localization. A computer program, RCAHEST (reinforced concrete analysis in higher evaluation system technology) was used. Through damage modelling, corrosion, the reduction in the cross-sectional area of corroded reinforcing bars, the decrease in the ductility of bars, and the deterioration of concrete strength are considered. Taking concrete compressive strength, longitudinal tension reinforcement ratio, and corrosion level as variables, analytical parametric studies were performed. It was found that the plastic hinge length of deteriorated RC beams is not significantly correlated with concrete compressive strength and longitudinal tension reinforcement ratio, but it is greatly correlated with corrosion level.
